Sodium bicarbonate is a sodium salt of carbonic acid. It has alkalinizing and electrolyte replacement properties. It appears as white lumps or as an odourless, white crystalline powder. The compound also has a bitter or slightly alkaline taste and is slightly soluble in water. It is mostly used as a pH buffering agent, systemic alkalizer, an electrolyte replenisher, or in topical cleansing solutions.
Food & Baking Preparation: Sodium bicarbonate is primarily used as a leavening agent in baking. Sometimes, it is also used for green vegetables baking to give them a bright green color.
Animal Husbandry: Addition in feed mills, dairy farming and animal husbandry; adding an appropriate amount to feed can significantly increase the effective utilization rate of feed, reduce feeding costs, and improve the economic benefits of raising livestock.
